Privacy policy

Short version: we collect as little as possible, use it only for the reason you gave it to us, and never sell it. We are based in South Africa, so the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) governs everything below. The longer version follows.

Who is responsible for your information

UX Refinery (Pty) Ltd, trading as UX Refinery. When you contact us or take part in our research, we act as the responsible party for your personal information. Questions about any of this go to someone@theuxrefinery.com, and we will sort them out.

Information we collect

Whatever you send us directly, usually your name, email, and company when you get in touch, plus a small amount of technical data about how this website is used. If you accept analytics cookies, that includes aggregate visit statistics. Nothing more. This website has no contact form and no third-party message processor, so your enquiries travel straight to our inbox and nowhere else.

How we use information

To reply to you, to deliver the work you asked for, and to make this website better. That is the whole list. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it except where the law requires it.

Cookies and analytics

Analytics cookies only load if you accept them in our cookie banner, and you can withdraw that choice at any time through the cookie preferences link in the footer. When active, Google Analytics measures aggregate visits, which means some technical data is processed by Google on servers outside South Africa. Our cookie policy explains exactly what is stored and for how long.

Research participants

If you take part in one of our studies, your data is treated as confidential, used only for the purposes you agreed to, and stored securely under the applicable data-protection laws. You can withdraw at any point, and we will stop using your data from that moment on.

Your rights under POPIA

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to certain uses of it, and withdraw consent you previously gave. Just write to someone@theuxrefinery.com. If you feel we have not handled your information properly, you can also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
