You'll always know what's happening.
Research can feel like a black box. Money in, PDF out, fingers crossed. Ours runs in nine visible steps, and at any point you can ask where things stand and get a straight answer.
How does a UX Refinery study run?
Nine visible steps. You approve everything before fieldwork starts, and nothing happens in a black box.
- 1
Kick-off call
Thirty minutes, maybe an hour. You talk, we listen, and by the end we both know what winning looks like.
- 2
Define objectives & hypotheses
You bring the business questions. We sharpen them into things research can actually answer. Vague in, vague out, so we never do vague in.
- 3
Define sample criteria
Who counts as your user? We pin that down together, demographics, habits, the lot, so nobody can dismiss the findings later with talk of the wrong audience.
- 4
Create a research plan
Method, sample size, timeline, and what lands on your desk at the end. Written down and agreed, no surprises. This is also when we tell you if a cheaper method would do the job.
- 5
Design, preparation & setup
Discussion guides, test scripts, surveys, recruitment screeners. Built by us, approved by you. Recruiters briefed, platforms tested, pilots run.
- 6
Fieldwork & data collection
The busy bit. Interviews, tests, and surveys in the field, run to plan and on schedule. You get updates as it happens, including the odd quote too good not to share.
- 7
Analysis
Hours of recordings become patterns. We code, cluster, count, and argue with each other until what is left is solid. Then we check it again.
- 8
Reporting
A report you would actually read. Clear findings, evidence attached, recommendations ranked by impact. No forty pages of throat-clearing.
- 9
Presenting (optional)
Sometimes a PDF is not enough. We will walk your team through the findings live, handle the hard questions, and leave everyone knowing what to do on Monday morning.
How do you choose the right method?
It starts with the decision you need to make, not with a method looking for work. Whatever answers that decision most simply is what we propose, written up in a research plan with the sample, the timeline, and what lands on your desk. You sign it off before anything else happens. And here is the part that costs us money: if a few interviews would do the job, we will tell you not to buy the survey.
Let's talk
Ready to stop guessing?
Tell us what you're trying to figure out. We'll design the study that answers it: UX, market, or both.
